Yes. yes, yes. Open Source has been driving forward the progress in the tech industry for years. It’s no different with AI and LLM’s.

And, in my humble opinion, the battle between open source vs proprietary AI, OSS will win in the end. Meaning, the most progress and positive impact.  

Personalized GPTs are here, and I have mixed feelings about them 

I also have mixed feelings about them. Particularly for the monopolistic nature of “totally-not-openAI”.

And if it’s available to only Pro or Enterprise users, that sounds like one of those “pay-to-pay” (or worse pay-to-win) kind of games.

But most importantly, it’s an awesome article because it’s real life proof of what I’ve been talking about and writing online for years.

The simple premise is “anyone can learn a new skill, doesn’t matter if it looks too complicated at the start, in a short period of time and it doesn’t take that many resources”.

You’re right. The KISS principle always apply. Increasing the amount of technologies and features on software increases the attack surface dramatically.

Interesting that you mention that node.js situation. That’s more common with unmaintained OSS. Although I’ve seen GitHub taking measures to mitigate that risk.

In a way, I’m glad this happens because OpenAI hasn’t been very clear about the use of the data. Let alone the fact they’re no longer “open”. 

Plus, ChatGPT isn’t the only useful AI. It’s one of those cases where the most popular tool is not the best. But it’s very difficult to convince people otherwise.

I have read a ton of technical tutorials (and also wrote a few myself). But I’ve seen that many of those are hard to understand and assume lots of previous knowledge.

Because of it, I wanted to create a tutorial that makes the topic of building with AI accessible to more kinds of people, even complete beginners without a technical background.

\
And so, I wrote that tutorial for building a transcriber app with OpenAI’s Whisper and the GPT-3 API as if it was a magical story told in 3 acts.

The result turned out much better than I expected.

So much so than even my mom and in-laws were able to understand it despite having no technical knowledge or even desire to build an app. 😆

So yeah, I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. And even more so that it is featured as a contest finalist!

YES! That is the quote. I’ve seen so many people waiting for the moment when they “finally” be able to X.

Unfortunately, some people can’t be told, they have to experience it by themselves.

The point is that there is no end. It’s a lifelong journey. Those who are waiting for a moment when it will “end” so that they can finally “relax”, are in for a rude awakening.
